Saw Drift by stucat Saw Drift by stucat
This was my actual first illustration I did this year and finished for my mates book White Cloud Worlds.

Inspired by D1 and all drift related things, thought it would be pretty silly to have the v-twin circular saw have a go. It was also good to finally draw the other side so I could think what it looks like with the open blade (was going to have a grill for it, but thought that would be kinda safe design thing to do). I also grew up seeing the FD around town and thought that was a cool car in the original yellow. Still looks rad today even though it came out in the early 90's.

The flash light on the cell phone is a pretty good hands free torch too :]

haha belt sander racing is what inspired this silly mode of transport.
I've held my phone many times like that to help me find things in the dark when my hands aren't free.
Sparks only give off a small amount of glow when thrown out.

Thanks!

Now that I think about it...what gave him the idea to travel by sawblade anyway? XD

I can actually see how that may have happened, and it's quite funny.
"Hey look, a big saw!  LET'S SEE HOW FAST I CAN BREAK IT!"
*later*
"WHOA I CAN TRAVEL WITH THIS THING I SHALL MAKE YOU MY OWN AND BECOME THE BATMAN OF THE APOCALYPSE!"

That looks pretty cool!  Good luck fixing it when the sawblade breaks!  By the way, there's a reason cars can't go nearly as fast without rubber tires on the wheels. XD

just rip off the broken blade and throw on a new one :V
I do know the advantage of rubber creating friction for momentum, this is just a fun cartoony idea

Thanks!

Good luck forging new blades after you've melted them down and reforged them so much that they break easily. XD  I'm making a point that you will run out of resources eventually.  Also, what I meant was that the saw won't be able to go nearly as fast as a car, not to mention being very unsafe.

Sorry, sometimes I get overcritical about things.  Like I said, it's a really cool idea!  I'd just prefer something more practical as a mode of transportation, like a car or a train or even a tank (TRAIN AND TANK OH YES!).

I know it is not my place to butt in, but for someone who watches magical cartoon ponies for little girls, you are certainly taking this image much too seriously.  =P
It is a cartoon fantasy world that is drawn for the enjoyment of the artist, it need not be more realistic than one where rainbow unicorns take to the sky.

I just tend to get rather critical about things sometimes.  Besides, this is a different universe.  In a world where magic is abundant and just about everything can make sense as a result, it's fine.  In this world, where there is no magic (as far as I can tell anyway), it seems like a rather gear-headed idea, looking really bada** but not serving much purpose otherwise compared to other modes of transportation.  I'm not taking it seriously, and I will admit it looks really cool.  I just find the idea of riding a freaking saw when you could be driving a car which is much bigger, much faster (probably), and provides much better protection, to be kind of bizarre. XD  But it's up to him!  It's still cool!

This is a world involving cartoon animal people, riding a circular saw is quite possibly the least far fetched aspect about it and it sounds as though you have very little grasp of the concept of cartoons and the exaggerations and implausibilities involved in them.  They are for fun and to be enjoyed by an audience because they are over the top and engaging ideas and not because they focus heavily on the practical boundaries of the real world.

If you were not taking this seriously, you would not be vehemently trying to defend your points as to why you think that this idea is unrealistic.  The artist has already explained multiple times in the comments why they chose a circular saw and that it is simply for shits and giggles.  That is the only justification you should ever need.

I'm just saying that in universes that are more serious, like this one, usually the technology and methods of doing things are more serious as well.

Who are you to make that kind of judgment?  You are not the artist and therefore not qualified to make the claim that this is a serious universe, especially when the artist themselves has already made their intentions behind these pieces perfectly clear several times.  Your criticisms are otherwise rude and unwarranted.
